FirstStepForHELP chosen for Training Program

Updated: Oct 8, 2019

CommCARE’s FirstStepForHELP program has become one of 12 National Suicide Prevention Lifeline provider agencies chosen for Applied Suicide Intervention Skills Training (ASIST). CommCARE now has two of three ASIST trainers in the northwest region of MO. The trainer experience prepared CommCARE's Michelle Watson, LMSW, Director of Clinical Services, and Erica Immenschuh, LSCSW, Chief Clinical Officer, with the specialized training to deliver the 2-day course. The focus of ASIST is to help caregivers become willing, ready, and able to provide emergency first aid to persons at risk of suicidal behavior.

Immenschuh says, "Having been touched personally and professionally by the loss and grief associated with suicide, it was an honor and privilege to receive the grant from Living Works to participate in the Applied Suicide Intervention Skills Training."
